I think those of you who know me, know very well that by no means am I religious-Yet, I can not say I'm atheist either-Even though I come from a scientific background, I have my nights where I pray, have a conversation with God, or hope that there is a purpose to this whole thing I'm a part of -life! yet again, I can not prove or dis-prove the existence of God-so there you have it-I guess I'm agnostic.
Having said that-I wonder why I get bothered when Muslims (Islam being the religion I was born with), are pointed the fingure at, for being the ONLY religious group that have commmited crimes and continue to do so.
I guess, I'm dancing around the issue that has been bothering me in the last two weeks. Here is a background.
I visited Egypt May of last year. Long story short, we were overwhelmed with the gap between the poor and the rich. We saw little kids on goats, begging for change-hoping to have something to eat-I swear, both my father and I felt a feeling of unrest in the city of Cairo-every where we went, a tour guide followed us-hoping for some sort of break that day. Given this scenario, I wasn't surprised to see the riots start two weeks ago.
As bias as the news can be, BBC and CNN inclluded-they have shown many individuals emphasizing that this "revolution" is about "democracy" and not about religion. However, it is obvious that the majority of Egyptions are Muslims-and so it is not surprising to see them in group prayer...Hello!! that's what people do in a time like this-had it been a Christian country, England or Italy, I'm sure we would see prayer in a different sort..
YETTTTTT!! Egyptians, Americans, and even some Iranians-insist that this "uprising" in Egypt and surrounding area is likely to be a product of Muslim Extremists-and that this is an effort to once again, promote Islam.
Well to that, to be honest-I have to say-I Don't think so-and I hope not!! Egypt is a country that has been known to be fair to both the Christian and Muslim community.- If you are Egyptian, I welcome your comments on this issue-I have worked with Egyptians of both religions for over 15 years-and although some stereotypes and prejudice exist in the country, as withinin the US, I have been lead to believe that the conflicst have far been less extreme than those of in, say Soudi Arabia or Syria.
Again, today on CNN, people were holding signs highlighting that Egypt if for both Christians and Muslims. What do you think?? do you think this unrest is about religion?? Is this about creating another "Iran"? Is this "revollution" starting to be called "democratic" but later,, will it change to a relgious government? Post your comments, and let's look back in a year or so.
Thank you!

I don't have a good feeling about what is happening in Egypt? Sorry to say it is not about Muslims, Christians or Jewish. It is never about the religion, only governments or people use religion to hide behind and get the support of uneducated masses. It is about power, control, and economics. We shall see, but I hope and pray there is not massive killing of people by their government or the next group in power. Democracy is a nice concept, but it doesn't seem to work in many parts of this world.
