Reminder to Educate yourselves!!! (me included)
At a time when the middle east is being portrayed in the way it is through the media-a media which is owned by a few elite selfish but yet somewhat sharp (in which they are able to control people's views to the limit that it has become), it is good to remind the general public of the contributions that those same countries have made to society, humanity, culture, science, mathematics, engineering, spirituality, etc. etc. and then here human rights....although we are victims (myself included) of focusing on pop culture, such as the "Charlie Sheen's" or the "JLOs", it is important to also read up on who is responsible for various advancements and developments (developments ironically seen more in Western areas rather than the areas responsible for starting this evolution). I'm talking about for example the first bill of human rights was written in Persia/Iran-yet Iran is a country that does not allow a woman to become a judge, or a man and woman to openly date..or gay rights is obsolete. More so, note that the Persians liberated the Jews..yet this is a surprise to many given the hatred between the Israelis and Iranian government. This is just an example. Also read up on where did mathematics come from? the numbering system in English? the first postal service? how about something simple like the pants you wear? All of them came from those same societies now labeled as "uncivilized". Very ironic!!! educate yourselves and your friends and family. I love this country and wouldn't want to live anywhere else, but I refuse to forget my roots-If you come across something, an area you've never heard of before, a government system new to you, read up on it...it's now simple...with the internet, etc, takes a minute...this is the only way to make this society see people evolve into smarter politicians-avoiding the "Sara Palins" in the world-and see people that know the difference between Iran and Iraq-or know that the Middle East is not a continent! or Japan and China have completely different cultures!! I can go on and on......Have a great day!

Well be my guest to go on and on. I am personally amazed how bigoted, as a culture we've become. Most of it is disguised by certain factions, because they know how uncool it is to be a bigot, so it is hidden. But it comes out in the general web and flow of our own country, sadly.
ReplyDeleteThe ancient cultures have the most intrigue, the most history (of course). They may not have the advanced technology we seem to treasure, but there were countless advancements (as you point out).
Think about mathematics, as just one example. There is so much rich culture and history that we just seem oblivious of. I love this country, of course, and our history, and I'm proud of the founding fathers, and past presidents and most of it all (notice I say most of it because much of it is very pathetic and embarrassing), but we're sooooo young as a culture and a country. And we exhibit our immaturity by not craving to learn what other ancient cultures could teach us. We also show our arrogance, which is mostly very pathetic.
sorry to sound like such a downer, but it is time we act like we have evolved to some kind of advanced state of understanding of how to move on from here, as one group--homo sapiens, and a wonderful planet to share...
